چکیده

Metabolic hormones such as insulin and thyroid hormones play an important role in animal metabolism. Insulin is a 5.8-kDa protein synthesized in the pancreatic β-cells and secreted in response to evaluation of plasma glucose level (Magistrelli et al., 2008). Insulin has an important role in glucose transport and modulates peripheral satiety signals and directly targets the central nervous system to inhibit food intake (Gale et al., 2004). Also, insulin has an important role in lipid metabolism, stimulating lipogenesis and inhibiting lipolysis (BanTokuda et al., 2008). The thyroid hormones maintain the homeostasis of energy and protein metabolism, thermoregulation, growth and productivity parameters (Huszenicza et al., 2002). Changes of blood thyroid hormone concentrations are an indirect measure changes in thyroid gland activity and circulating thyroid hormones. They can be considered as indicators of the metabolic and nutritional status of the animals (Todini et. al, 2007). Thyroxin (T4) and triiodothyronin (T3) are also factors that regulate leptin expression or its plasma concentration to some extent (Chilliard et al., 2005). Leptin is an “adipokine” peptide hormone produced by fat cells, particularly in white adipose tissue (Erhardt et al., 2003). There are many roles of leptin in the animal organism. Production of leptin is modulated by insulin, glucocorticoids and sexual steroids and affects on the central nervous system inhibiting hypothalamic neuropeptide production, mainly neuropeptide Y, which stimulate appetite (Stephens et al., 1995). The nutritional state is closely ISSN 1330-7142 UDK = 636.37.1:577.1

Plasma Levels of Anabolic Hormones in Suckling Lambs are Affected by Late Gestational Nutrition

In this study, the effects of late gestational undernutrition (LGU) on plasma concentration of insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-I), leptin, insulin and glucose in subsequent sucking lambs was investigated. Ten twin-bearing ewes were fed either restrictedly (Restricted) or adequately (Control) during the last six weeks of gestation and were fed ad libitum after parturition. Blood samples were t...

مقایسه سطح خونی هورمون لپتین در بیماران چاق دیابتی و غیردیابتی

Introduction: Leptin was first discovered from the "Ob Gene" by Friedwan and co-workers in 1994. It is a small peptide with 167 amino acids and molecular weight of 16 Kd . It is secreted by adipose tissues. Leptin has two type of receptors in Hypothalamus and other tissues including muscles, liver and intestines. Leptin inhibits neuropeptide Y resulting in decreased appetite and on the other ha...

The relationship between circulating levels of IL-18 and leptin, HsCRP, blood pressure and cardiorespiratory function in obese and lean men

ABSTRACT Introduction: Interleukin-18 (IL-18) is a proinflammatory cytokine that is produced in adipose tissue and skeletal muscle. The circulating levels of IL-18 increases in obesity and some metabolic and cardiorespiratory diseases. The aim of the present study is to investigate the relationship between circulating levels of IL-18 and leptin, high-sensitivity C-reactive protei...

Effects of a high-protein, low-energy diet in finishing lambs: 1. Feed intake, estimated nutrient uptake, and levels of plasma metabolites and metabolic hormones

Patterns of tissue mobilisation in ruminants are ill-understood. This hinders nutritional management to mitigate the effects of energy deprivation on protein mass, and nutritional regimens designed to change body composition. An experiment was conducted to comprehensively evaluate the effects of a low-energy high-protein diet in growing lambs. Three diets (CON=concentrate diet ad libitum, STR=s...

Lipid Profile and Leptin Levels in Patients with Metabolic Syndrome

Abstract Background and Objective: Metabolic syndrome called a cluster of several metabolic disorders is associated with increased risk of cardiovascular diseases. Genetic differences in leptin receptor gene are related with the concentration and activity of leptin in that these discrepancies can influence lipid levels. We aimed to determine the association between the leptin receptor gene p...
